Description
The MagickWand from HiPi is built to be used optimally with water pipes of all kinds. The vaporizer features an 18mm glass on glass connection, allowing it to be used with hookah adaptors, GonG waterpipe adaptors (14mm and 18mm) and a 9mm standard connection.
The MagickWand offers a ceramic heating element incased in glass. The MagickWand's air-path passes over the ceramic heating element and otherwise features an all-glass passageway. The heating element utilized by the MagickWand is also used by the Incognito Vaporizer (also from HiPi).
Variable Temperature Control
Unlike many units, the MagickWand's temperature control is placed on the power-supply. The control features a green light which notifies the user when optimal vaporization temperature is reached. While the green light allows a user to make note of the relative temperature of the unit, the MagickWand's temperature range offers a wide amount of variation.
Heat-Up Time
Heat-up times seem to vary from user to user, but generally the MagickWand's element is ready for use in 5-7 minutes. Some users have noted the benefits of waiting for the entire Wand to get hot (approximately 30 minutes) before vaporizing.
Usage
While the MagickWand was designed with water filtration in mind, the vaporizer will pair with any compatible 18mm GonG connection. This adaptability allows a variety of external tools to be utilized, (e.g. the Vapor Tower Whip Wand Set for purchase here: Vapeworld).
To begin, plug in the MagickWand Vaporizer and adjust the temperature to your preference. Place a layer of vaporizable herbs in the MagickWand's bowl. Start with enough to cover the included screen, and use a relatively fine grind.
Once warm, place the Wand atop the bowl and begin inhaling, causing the MagickWand to produce vapor. It will continue to produce vapor while attached to the vaporization tool (e.g. bong or whip set). To clear, remove the MagickWand and/or bowl.
Alternatively, some users prefer to simply inhale and take hits without removing the unit from the bowl. This method might leave vapor in the vaporization tool until the next hit.
Because of the relatively wide bowl-size, stirring helps to extract vapors from the herbal sample; however, it isn't needed after every hit.
You can increase the operating temperature of the MagickWand throughout a session as they please.
- Important Note/Warning
- The MagickWand's glass encasement becomes hot to the touch. The product has been refined to include a heat protective sleeve but you must nonetheless take great caution when handling the unit. The bottom portion of the unit in particular should be flagged from the onset as containing "hot-spots." Nonetheless, the Wand is comfortable to hold from the top and handled easily with the necessary precautions.
Tips and Tricks
- For shorter heat up time, first make sure the material is in the bowl then leave the MW on the bowl as it heats up so that the glass heats up with it. Also, try turning the dial on full blast and then later turning it down to the green light or slightly above/below, depending on your experience.
- For milkier/thicker clouds of vapor, cover the hole at the top of the wand lightly with the palm of your hand.
- If you leave your unit on in the upright position for a long time the whole wand gets hot due to the rising heat. Keep a cloth or oven mitt nearby just in case!
- If your bud still looks like it has some juice in it but isn't producing clouds, turn the heat up slightly, and if you've got a stirrer nearby stir it up and hit it again.
- Users (namely caseball2051 and FLskwat from the MagickWand thread on fuckcombustion.com) have noted that placing an extra screen in the bottom of the MW bowl (below the 'stock' screen) helps keep herbal particulates from entering the vaporizing tool.
- Allowing the unit to heat up in a heat-safe vessel (e.g. glass or ceramic mug, pitcher, etc.) can be beneficial for safety and ease of use. The unit can also be placed safely horizontally on many surfaces.
Note on the Development of the MagickWand
While the MagickWand is available for purchase as a consumer product, it has and continues to undergo product development. Refinements have thus far included but are not limited to the addition of a (multi-tiered) heat-protective sleeve and the replacement of the initial warranty relevant sticker.
Continuing Developments
The manufacturer has expressed an interest in releasing an accompanying attachment which would allow the MagickWand to inflate balloons/bags with vapor. This 'bag-blowing' upgrade has not been released.
